Scope and Contents

The collection is known both as the `Denmilne State Papers` and the `Denmilne Collection`. Less formally it is often referred to as the `Denmilne Manuscripts`.

Dates: 1548-1641.

Scope and Contents

The composer gives a history (folio xiii) of the work, which was composed in 1886-1887 and, in part, scored in 1888 (see dates on various folios). Some parts are incomplete.

Interspersed with the music are unruled leaves, bearing illuminations, manuscript notes of the composer, etc., on folios i-ii, viii, x-xiii, xxv, xxvii verso, xxviii verso, xxxix, xliii, xlvii, li.

Dates: 1886-1888.

Scope and Contents The contents are as follows.(i) Letters, poems, etc., of Alexander Laing, the Brechin poet, to Peter Buchan, collector of Scottish ballads, Peterhead, 1828-1850, undated. The letters, which are in Laing's autograph, deal chiefly with literary matters of the day. Scope and Contents There are additional sheets, inserted after page 62, containing seven poems of Henry Mackenzie written in 1825 and 1828-1829, all apparently unpublished (folios 1-5).
